Tatiana Patte, feltmaker in Mansle, near Angoulême
For a few years now, I have been "felting" light.
My work is the fruit of various experiences working with matter. From applying wall plaster to perfecting finishes, and from sanding to wood lacquers and patinas, I have developed a deep sensitivity to textures and details.
Furthermore, my attraction to the plant world and natural materials led me to experiment with botanical dyes, which ultimately brought me to discover the fascinating world of wool. Drawn to organic textures and materials, I was instantly captivated by those offered by wool felt, as well as its plasticity, which allows for the creation of dimensional, sculptural felt.
Wool felt has artistic properties, but it is not easily tamed—and that is exactly what I love about it. You have to take the time to observe the material, to understand and respect it in order to truly master it. Every type of wool has its own specificities. Depending on the project and its intended use, certain fibers will be ideal, while others won't work at all.
I choose sober, clean lines, which to me, best bring the material into... the light.
